Trips to Antarctica
Antarctica, a mysterious land that has yet to be fully explored, is quickly becoming a popular vacation destination. The cold, barren, desolate land is not extremely
attractive to the average person, however, we’ve seen steady increases in trips to Antarctica by citizens from all over the world. There are several possible reasons for this increase. My personal opinion is that people like new things, and Antarctica is very new. Trips to Antarctica are not like trips to anywhere else – it’s truly a unique experience.
Antarctica A Different Experience
Trips to Antarctica are not like typical vacations. First of all, most people travel to the area by cruise ships, which alone makes the trip a different experience. Since the land is extremely cold and potentially dangerous, most commercial cruise ships stick to the waters mostly. Some do make landings, but usually only 1 or 2 per trip. When cruise ships dock, you’ll usually be able to get out and explore your surroundings. Of course with the biting cold you won’t want to stay out their for long, but it’s still a good experience to get hands-on with Antarctica.
Antarctica Luxurious Relaxation
Since you’ll be spending most of your time aboard a cruise ship, you will have plenty of time to sit back and relax. Antarctica is a very beautiful place, especially when you see it from the comfort of a commercial cruise ship. If you’re out in the elements, fighting to survive, you won’t have much time to enjoy the scenery. But on a cruise ship, where your food, lodging and entertainment is already taken care of, all you have to do is relax and enjoy the trip. Some trips to Antarctica end up very badly because people think they’re good enough to fight the elements. The simple fact is that Antarctica is a dangerously cold place, even in the middle of summer, and you shouldn’t attempt to camp out anywhere on the continent unless you’re a professional.
Sightseeing and Exploration in Antarctica
When you look out over the vast waters of Antarctica, all you’ll really see is ice, ice, and more ice. However, there are beautiful natural ice caves, caverns, ice bergs, and much more that is absolutely amazing when you see it in person. |
